Sarah Porell

Sarah Porell is a spiritual director and clinical social worker (LICSW) whose path has been shaped by both formal training and lived experience. She is rooted in the Catholic tradition and Ignatian spirituality through Jesuit education and time with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps, though her understanding of the Sacred has widened over time. She is especially drawn to the contemplative and mystical threads that run through many traditions and trusts that the Holy meets each person in ways that are deeply personal and real.

Her formation includes time in a L’Arche community, participation in 12-step recovery, and study through the Living School at the Center for Action and Contemplation. She also brings over 20 years of experience as a medical social worker, companioning people through illness, loss, and end of life—experiences that continue to shape how she listens and shows up.

Sarah is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker and holds dual master’s degrees in social work and pastoral ministry from Boston College. She is passionate about the intersection of spirituality and psychology and often weaves in Internal Family Systems (IFS), offering a gentle, respectful way to explore the many “parts” within us—especially helpful during times of transition, discernment, or when something in life feels stuck or tender.

Sarah aims to create a compassionate space that is safe, open, and human. Whether someone is seeking clarity, deeper connection, or simply a place to slow down and listen to their life, she walks alongside with warmth, curiosity, compassion, and humor—trusting that something wise and sacred is already at work within each person.

Sarah lives in West Roxbury with her husband, Shelley, and their rescue dog, Bailey. She also maintains a small private practice, Chrysalis Counseling & Soul Care (https://chrysaliscounselingandsoulcare.com/) offering both therapy and spiritual direction.
