Support for Kat and Her Mother, Ora A Message to the CEC Community
About two weeks ago, Kat received devastating news: her mother, Ora, had gone missing while traveling alone in Italy. Days later, the police informed Kat that Ora had been found in an ICU, in a coma, recovering from emergency brain surgery. Just six hours after that call, Kat began a 31-hour journey to Italy, joined by Andy. Since then, the two of them have been doing everything possible to create a safe landing for Ora — in the midst of a deeply uncertain and emotional time. The situation has been further complicated by the financial toll of emergency surgery, extended hospital care, last-minute accommodations, and the unknowns of post-release rehabilitation. While Ora has made remarkable strides in her recovery, her abilities and needs upon discharge remain uncertain. Doctors hope she may be released from the hospital in the coming week or two. To help ease the road ahead, The Hearth — founded by CEC co-founder Mark Yaconelli and a collaborator with Kat and CEC through the Conversation Project — has established a GoFundMe account to support Kat in caring for her mother. The CEC community is joining The Hearth in inviting your support. Whether through prayers, loving messages, or financial contributions, your care makes a real difference.
Endless thanks to you from Kat and all of us at the Center for Engaged Compassion
