Experiences

These programs are ideal for ministers, organizational leaders, social justice activists, teachers, parents, and anyone who seeks practical training in compassionate living. Taught by Dr. Frank Rogers, Jr. you are invited to attend a retreat, receive one-on-one spiritual direction, online instruction, weekly spiritual practices, group processes and radical teachings for personal and social transformation.
Compassion Practice
The Center employs a unique process designed by Frank Rogers, Andrew Dreitcer, and Mark Yaconelli involving 6 basic steps:
  1. Paying Attention
  2. Understanding Empathetically
  3. Loving with connection
  4. Sensing the sacred
  5. Embodying new life
  6. Acting
The Practice is outlined further in Frank Rogers' book, Practicing Compassion (Fresh Air Books, 2015).
Facilitator Training
If you have received a Certificate of Engaged Compassion, you are invited to attend our Facilitator in Training (FiT) process which includes:
  • participating in all dimensions of the program
  • attending teaching and debriefing sessions with Center Staff
  • Assisting in leading exercises, practices, and/or small groups
  • Participating in group supervision with Center Staff
At the conclusion of Phase 1, FiTs will have experienced the curriculum twice as a participant and will have observed and been in dialogue with Center Staff regarding group dynamics, deeper understandings of the practices, facilitating small groups, logistics, etc.
Radical Teachings
The Center does not simply formulate theories about engaged compassion. It provides people and communities with the tools to embody such compassion in wise, appropriate, tangible ways. As such, the CEC is working to develop programs and practices that help to set the global standard for training leaders to form lives of creativity and engaged compassion within multi-religious and/or multi-cultural contexts including development of:
  • Contemplative Practices
  • “Love Your Enemy” Campaign
  • Narrative Pedagogies
